How We Operate
We understand there is a lot of negative energy surrounding the 'recruiting industry' these days, and as people in the business we can't agree more. We had recruiter problems ourselves after deciding to teach in Korea in 2000.

We would like to tell you that we're the best and offer the greatest jobs but the truth is that we can't speak for all of the other recruiting or placement agencies out there, we're sure there are some good ones. What we can tell you is that we operate our business differently from most other placement agencies.

To give you a quick understanding of how the industry typically works, please continue reading. The big recruiting companies you see on the web and in the newspapers are real companies that revolve around two things, time and money. How much money they can make from you and how quick they can get you over there in order to receive that money.

They tell you all the positives and somehow forget to mention the negatives in order to keep you interested and working with their program.  In reality, knowing the negative aspects about teaching abroad are equally, if not more, important then knowing the positive aspects.  Because of these factors the ESL recruiting industry has managed to develop a lack of trust with new and experienced teachers alike.  The truth is, many Korean recruiting agencies employ people who have never taught and therefore have never experienced teaching English.  In addition to this, Korean people often have a different opinion with respect to; what is an acceptable working environment and what is not.  Because of these factors many teachers go abroad and expect things that were never there to begin with.  To state things plainly… it’s an unfortunate reality.

How We Are Different

Our business is run through a network of friends, western teachers and partner companies based in Korea. Many of the South Korean schools we work with were located and verified by us directly during our time in Korea and by direct school to school referral.   We also have friends and colleagues in most major cities throughout the country who help us find good Korean schools for new teachers to work at.

Our objective is to keep our business as personable as possible with all of the teachers we place and people who are involved with helping us. We're trying to build this business differently than the others we have seen and word of mouth has been the strongest credential for us. Therefore, it's not in our interest to send teachers to schools they are not happy with. Besides why send people to unsuitable schools when there are enough ESL jobs in Korea to keep the large majority of teachers happy with great destinations. When we have a greater demand for teachers than there are teachers available, we will post vacancies on several job boards for others to view. This gives Korean schools a better chance of filling the role and offers the students the teacher they need.

Also, we will never ask you for a penny of our time, we attain a percentage of the placement fee from the director of the school you choose. The remaining percentage goes to the western teacher at the school or one of our colleagues, for helping us to find you the position.

Once you are settled, we ask that you work with Gone2Korea to help find new suitable Korean schools to send teachers to. This is completely optional and we don't expect that you follow through with this if you choose not to. However, if you do choose to get involved then you will become a part of our business and in return we will give you a percentage of our recruiting fee for your help.

If you choose to go with another recruiter we wish you luck, but remember not to give them any money for their services (except for courier fees), you are the asset! And remember if they guarantee everything then it's not the truth, there will always be little things, with any agency including ours that will be different upon arrival. The key is to minimize these things as much as possible by learning as much as possible about your school, recruiter and location before you sign the contract and are already on the plane.
